Overview
Forensic chemistry involves the use of specialized scientific techniques to analyze nonbiological materials from crime scenes and legal investigations. Forensic chemists provide objective and detailed analytical data to support law enforcement agencies and medical examiners.
Forensic chemists work in local, state, federal, and private labs and in specialized roles for agencies like the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
